Argentina has incredible hunting for birds, but less known is its’ superb hunting for Big Game species. They have excellent hunting for Red Stag, Blackbuck, Wild Boar, Asian Water buffalo, Mouflon Sheep, Axis deer, Fallow and much more! And in this particular outfitters case, he has the ability to also put you into world class high volume wing shooting in conjunction with your big game hunt! AND YOU CAN GO HUNTING IN MARCH AND APRIL!!! No more sitting and waiting for fall.
So there is the possibility to take a bunch of big game, then relax and shoot hundreds of doves a day each morning and evening for a few days, in between which you can enjoy long lunches with Argentine Wine and beef, and take a quiet a siesta— a welcome break! Plus this outfitter has multiple ranches, and some true luxury accommodations! Rifle, black powder or Archery, all can be handled here with great comfort and success. Look at the references toward the end of this write-up– Boddington and Shockey!
Our Client Wayne F. was there in April 2016 with his lovely wife as an observer, and they were thrilled with every portion of their trip:
“Absolutely wonderful experience in all respects. I hunted both free range and in their preserve. Ended up upgrading into the preserve and it was a true hunt and I ended up with a great stag. Food outstanding, excellent guides, wonderful hospitality. We loved the accommodations. And the food was outstanding. The staff waited on my wife like she was a queen.” Wayne F.
Perhaps the hub of the best red stag hunting in Argentina is in this La Pampa Province, which is located about 350 miles southwesterly of Buenos Aires. This is an area larger than most US States! This outfitter owns multiple ranches totaling around 200,000 acres!
Travel: You can get there by auto (about 9 hours from Buenos Aires) or most take either a local domestic flight or a charter. (NOTE: THIS OUTFITTER HAS ARRANGED FOR SPECIAL CHARTER FLIGHTS AND RATES FOR OUR CLIENTS. SEE BELOW IN THE PRICING SECTION FOR DETAILS!)
Upon arrival in Buenos Aires you will be met at EZEIZA International Airport, but the ground transport to the next airport is normally an extra charge (staff will be waiting for you right after the customs exit at the international airport ) and they will then transport you to the domestic airport (Jorge Newberry) for your short domestic flight or, if using their charter, then you will fly directly out of EZE itself (unless you are over-nighting in BA).
Both the charter flights and the domestic flights go to Santa Rosa. You can book your own domestic flight out of Jorge Newberry into Santa Rosa. http://www.aerolineas.com.ar/en-us. The domestic regular flights average around $300 r/t. The charter is divided among the hunters flying and is typically around $750 r/t. Be sure to sync your arrival into Buenos Aires with your departure for Santa Rosa. Customs can take several hours if you bring guns, and cross town travel can take 90 minutes if traffic is bad. Allow enough time!! Renting guns saves you several hours.
You will then be met in Santa Rosa at the local airport, and will be transported an hour or so to whichever ranch you are booked into for hunting.
THE HUNTING: They have over 85,000 acres for free range hunting (that is about 130 square miles). The Main ranch is nearly 55,000 acres (about 85 square miles), the vast majority of which is set aside for free ranging game, including the red stag, the puma and the boar. While virtually the entire ranch is free range hunting they do have a private 1,000 acre preserve for huge trophy Red Stags and for some of their more exotic game. They also have set aside for archery only, a 2,500 acre area, and it has some excellent stags- or hunt the main ranch, your choice! So they know and understand archers and their needs, and they do both spot and stalk and blind hunting.
They also have a second ranch, with more modest pricing due to less grandiose lodging and simpler food. It has 25,000 acres of free range area and 1,000 acres in a separate high fence for giant Red Deer and exotic game. For purposes of this writeup we call it Ranch #2.
It is also of note that this same outfitter also owns a third ranch, consisting of another 15,000 acres of free range hunting and another 4,500 acres of high fenced hunting. This other location holds record class trophies of several exotic and native species. This is also the ranch where they do MOST OF THEIR ARCHERY HUNTS!
So should you desire to hunt some giant trophies with gun or bow, you have the ability to do so all with one outfitter! You should also be aware that they pride themselves on their management of the native food resources to ensure the best trophy quality achievable on the free ranging animals. They have food plots strategically planned for big and small game along with several permanent and portable blinds as well. So the opportunity here is varied and suitable to most anyone’s physical condition. Of course, the biggest trophy stags come from the high fence areas. You will not normally take 350 class and up giant stags on the free range, but 6×6 stags and some 7×7 stags will be taken. A true challenge. Virtually all DECENT stags will make SCI book for free range stag.
Regardless of whether you hunt rifle or bow, the hunting in La Pampa is something that you will remember forever, stalking roaring red stags in the vastness of its free range endless woods; medal class trophy fallow deer, challenging water buffaloes in deep brush, spot & stalk huge boars during night, axis deer on hilly terrain, different rams, long shots on plains blackbuck antelope, mouflons rams plus more!!
And the bow hunting is run and managed by 2 experienced bowhunters that share your passion for bowhunting.
Based on our check of the SCI Record book (Edition XI) there is virtually no difference in size between NZ and Argentina on free ranging stags!! NONE! Just do NOT compare high fence NZ stag pictures with wild free range Argentina stags. But if you compare apples with apples – meaning Argentina high fence versus NZ high fence- a slight edge to NZ, but best pricing is clearly with Argentina. SCI has different categories for NZ and Argentina and for free range versus estate.
Craig Boddington hunted here and says this ABOUT THIS OPERATION: “In terms of accommodations, the main ranch’s Lodge is truly deluxe. It will remind you of a baron’s hunting estate, with red deer trophies hanging on stucco walls, with high ceiling rooms, huge dining rooms and fireplaces and chandeliers. They have their own chef as well. They even produce their own wines under their own label. The main lodge has 2 private suite rooms; a living room & main dining room with fireplace; 2 fully equipped bungalows each with 2 private suite rooms and private hall room for your hunting gear & preparation; a separate club house consisting of a large living room with fireplace and a lovely bar salon which tends to be the spot for late hour stories and socializing. They also serve you post-hunt appetizers. They have an area for gun cleaning with an office that has wireless and patch cord internet access along with a desktop PC at no charge. As you can see, this is no ordinary hunting lodge. Add in the chef; the special wines, the special care and treatment, the 1×1 guiding—and you have a great place! I feel better tonight. I went for a long run, which took away some of the guilt from your fantastic food and incredible wine! This is one of the best places I had ever been! The lodge and staff are fantastic, the country is beautiful, and your free-range stag are wonderfully challenging. I am only sorry that my wife, Donna, didn´t see this part of our Argentina adventure – Which means we must return! I cannot thank you enough!” Craig Boddington – Paso Robles, California ________________________________________
Every thing was wonderful… except I thought the kitchen was too big!!
PS: We’ll be back!! Jim Shockey – Canada
CHARTER FLIGHTS- NEW! This outfitter has arranged for a new charter flight service connecting Buenos Aires international airport with La Pampa Santa Rosa Airport. This is ONLY for March and April for week-long hunts. Flights will run Friday to Friday for these charter flights. This charter service will connect you to fly directly from the Ezeiza International Airport to the Santa Rosa airport in La Pampa- MEANING NO TRAVELING CROSS CITY FOR HOURS TO THE DOMESTIC AIRPORT FOR THE COMMERCIAL FLIGHTS. Another big bonus of these charters is that you avoid all the checkpoints at the domestic airport which are time consuming and irritating. We believe they are the only ranch offering these regular charter flights connecting Buenos Aires to La Pampa every Friday.
You get contacted right at EZE International by a representative of the charter company, and then escorted to Terminal C where the private flights take off. The departure to La Pampa will be scheduled to depart from Ezeiza by midday. Hunters arriving in BA by way of their international morning flights, will have the option of waiting at the private flights terminal lounge. At the conclusion of the full week hunt, the returning charter flight will depart from La Pampa by around midday, arriving at Ezeiza International Airport by 4:00 pm. This allows plenty of time to catch your late-afternoon international flights. The charter Aircraft to be used is a Metroliner. Cost is around $800. p.p. round trip.

Wingshooting: Doves, Pigeons, Perdiz and Waterfowl
Birds are plentiful and normally you can easily shoot over 1,000 shells per day. This outfitter owns seven family ranches specially selected for the dove hunting located in one of the most rustic places on the planet, but with all the luxuries provided. They hunt all 7 ranches and call them “ part of the Dove & Pigeon Hunting Grand Slam tour.”

TROPHY SHIPMENTS: Normally your trophies will arrive in US starting in August and September. They also have a well known taxidermist who can do your mounts there- just ask them! Personally Butch prefers to have it done in US- you have more control and better recourse in event of any problems.
***Everyone hunting free range stags, whether in Argentina or New Zealand, must realize that free range stags will not attain the sizes of the estate stags. We have hunted both Argentina and New Zealand, and we can personally attest to the fact that sizes are very similar in both countries on free range. A careful check of the record books of SCI also verifies no size difference. However, dollar wise, Argentina is clearly the bargain and for free range is probably the better destination. Craig Boddington has said the same thing.
And the caring staffs of these ranches make your trip a delight. Argentina is a unique and wonderful experience, and success is virtually 100%. But clients must realize red stags do not attain giant elk size!! Most racks will run about 36-40” in length; but often with excellent mass and lots of points. And you are in horns most of the time- just way too much fun!! Just be realistic in your goals, and you will love Argentina!! IF you want a true giant, then you MUST hunt the high fence areas. That said- what do you look for in a huge stag?
For those of you wanting giant stags- both Argentina and New Zealand have great ones, with the edge going to New Zealand at the moment (but Argentina is coming on strong and is cheaper.) We returned recently from two of New Zealand’s finest outfitters; and realized that pictures can really give wrong impressions on size! We too saw those pictures with racks that seem to dwarf the hunters! The reality is while those are huge stags, what you see is not what you get! Not even a little bit! The SCI book shows a number of stags from 450 to 543 points—and the largest one (543 SCI)— had horn lengths of 31 7/8ths and 34 5/8ths in length!!! In fact almost every estate stag in the top 50 had horn lengths from 31 to 43” !!! We all know how to take good pictures- meaning up tight on the animal, hunters far behind. We saw a wall of giant stag horns in New Zealand- all 440 to 550 stags- and we were kind of amazed in that while they had a ton of points, and a ton of mass, they do not have the great length and width of big elk. They are very impressive animals, but you have to remember they are not built like elk! Their high scores come form tons of points and mass, not on great length and spreads! Remember folks, most big elk are 6X6’s- often with 50 to 55” long beams, 50” spreads etc–while most big fenced stags are short horned, high mass and having 18 to 30 points! All those extra points add a lot of score.
