We choose to work with just a very few outfitters in the Northwest, but the ones we do work with are among the very best anywhere, including this Washington/Idaho outfitter.
He offers hunts on private and public land throughout Washington and Idaho for trophy mule deer, whitetails, blacktails, Roosevelt and Rocky Mountain elk, black bears, and even upland birds, with an array of accommodations options. They strive to maintain a 100% opportunity rate for all hunts. In fact, on their 1×1 guided hunts, they offer a guarantee of a shooting opportunity, and if you don’t get an opportunity, then you can come back for a discounted price. This high standard for success has been the key ingredient that has kept them above the average outfitter.
They specialize in bow, muzzleloader, and even long-range rifle hunts, and offer some interesting combos and even some unique opportunities, like mountain bike elk and deer hunts! And with the exception of rifle tags for mule deer in Idaho for which the draw deadline is early June, ALL TAGS ARE OVER THE COUNTER, SO NO NEED TO APPLY FOR A DRAW.
MOUNTAIN BIKE ELK AND DEER HUNTS
This outfitter uses mountains bikes (which he supplies) to access hard-to-reach areas of the huge tracts of public and private land that he hunts in Washington. Motorized vehicles are not allowed, and instead of the bother of horses and related gear, he uses mountain bikes to silently get hunters miles away from roads and gates and back to where the big Roosevelt elk and blacktail deer hide. If you’re looking for a different kind of hunt, this is it.
LONG RANGE SHOOTING
Although this is certainly not for everyone, there is no doubt that long range hunting has become a very popular tactic for hunting various species in the West. This outfitter’s elk, mule deer and whitetail hunting areas in Idaho are very conducive to this tactic, as it is a perfect mix of timber and open areas, along with large agricultural fields, making long shots not only possible, but even unavoidable at times. He also has some long range areas for Roosevelt elk and blacktail deer in Washington.
The outfitter and his guides are all very experienced long range shooters, and with their instruction and tutelage, 400-600 yard shots are very possible for the average hunter (only experienced long range shooters will be allowed to shoot beyond that). He is a Best of the West Pro Dealer, so he can set you up with your own long-range shooting set up, if you don’t already have your own. Long range rigs are also available for rental instead.
WOMEN’S HUNTS
Women make up one of the fastest-growing segments of the hunting industry, but some huntresses (especially those fairly new to hunting) may feel a bit intimidated or not totally comfortable going on a guided hunt, given that the vast majority of hunting guides are men. Well, this particular outfitter employs an outstanding female guide (who also happens to be his wife). She has guided in Alaska and Africa, has hosted her own TV hunting show, was the first woman to complete the Super Slam with a bow, and recently won the “Extreme Huntress” competition. Needless to say, she is extremely experienced and accomplished. She has guided many men, but she really enjoys guiding female hunters. Her specialties are archery and long-range rifle hunts, but she can guide virtually any of the hunts that this outfitter offers, in Idaho or Washington.
