Texas Aerial Hog/Predator Hunts #86

9-300x188

This outfitter is owned and operated by two highly experienced Marine Corps veterans with over 35 years of combined aviation experience. She has thousands of maintenance hours and over 1000 flight hours and is licensed as an A&P mechanic, CFII helicopter pilot, and sensor operator on multiple platforms of UAVs. After working for this operation she was offered the opportunity to buy it and did so in 2021. Her goal is to provide hunting enthusiasts with an opportunity to perform some conservation service for Texas farmers, while having an absolutely memorable trip.

Recent studies have estimated the feral hog population in Texas to be between 3.5 and 5 million. Every year landowners, farmers, and ranchers battle this invasive species. Feral hogs do an estimated 500 million dollars in economic damage per year. 7 out of every 10 hogs must be killed in order to keep their numbers in check, and that’s where YOU come in!

Here’s what some clients had to say:
“Hello.  My brother and I hunted with Sky hunter outfitters in February and had a great time. Chris was getting his feet under him as an outfitter and there were a few bugs to work out, BUT we had a great time, the food was excellent! He has a chef and there was plenty of great food. The accommodations are clean and comfortable we didn’t want for anything. We are going to go back again next winter and highly recommend Sky hunter outfitters. Sincerely Tim R.”

“Yes sir, I hunted with this outfitter, These guys are the greatest!!!! Everyone was very courteous, kind well informed on laws, etc. They are very concerned about safety, and made sure everyone had a good understanding of DO’S, and DON’T’S . A great over all experience, and I have booked a hunt with them again, for Jan. 14,15th 2017.  If I can answer any more questions, please just let me know.
I’ve told all my friends and they are planning trips as well!! Bob H.”

“My family and I will gladly provide a reference for this outfitter. My husband decided it would be a great “family” vacation. We have a 26 year old son and a 23 year old daughter. My husband was the only one of the three of us who had ever shot anything (he was raised as a hunter), but neither of my kids nor myself had even picked up a gun, much less shot anything. We were anxiously excited about the trip and were immediately put at ease by Chris’s demeanor and professionalism. Chris took us over a safety course on the guns we would be using the night before the hunt and again reviewed everything when we were at the pad, then the fun began! My husband and son went up first and upon their return, their excitement could be felt even before they landed. They had shot 7 hogs and had a great time. Now it was my daughter’s and my turn. Although hanging outside of a helicopter with a gun strapped to my body was never my idea of fun, we both had a blast! The pilot was amazing! He was able to fly the helicopter, unjam my daughter’s gun and catch my hat flying around the copter all in one swift movement. We were absolutely amazed at how easy it was (mentally) for us to shoot these hogs. After our first hour, we returned having shot 4 hogs. The second time around the guys returned with 5 hogs and my daughter and I had 9…..yes, the gals beat the guys! (Upon review of the video I must admit we encountered multiple herds and should have had a higher hog count had we been better hunters)
In summation, we loved it so much we returned and upon sharing our stories with friends, have already booked another shoot with friends, with a third outing in the planning process with a different group. Again, Chris did not disappoint in the managing of his business and the pilot amazed us with his helicopter skills. This is definitely a company you will want to align with if you want happy customers. Please feel free to contact us should you require further information. Harold, Sherry, Ryan & Chandler P.”

For safety reasons, we head out to the field in working groups of 3-4 shooters at a time. After hogs are located, we will use our vehicles to get to the general area of the hogs before continuing our approach on foot. If the wind is in our face and you stay quiet, we frequently get within 20-30 yards, in complete stealth before firing the first shot. This is not hunting from ground blinds or tree stands and shooting at baited hogs or captive animals. This hunt involves spotting and stalking packs of feral hogs roaming unkempt terrain in the pitch-black darkness with a thermal. Frequently Asked Questions

Am I required to have a Texas hunting License?
Yes, you will need to have your hunting license on hand during your hunt. If you are an out of state hunter you can pick up a 5 day license from any Texas Parks and Wildlife retailer that costs $48.

Can we bring our own guns?
This outfitter provides the firearms and ammunition for your hunt. Ammunition is unlimited so don’t be afraid to send rounds down range. They will provide you with a fully customized VEPR-12 gauge, a magazine fed semi-automatic shotgun firing 3-inch .00 buckshot.

Why don’t you use a sport rifle instead of the shotgun?
For safety reasons this outfitter uses a shotgun. A rifle runs a much higher chance of ricochet or a stray round traveling much farther than is acceptable. Also, the VEPR-12 gauge packs more than enough punch to bring down even the largest hog!

Is there an age limit to go on a hunt?
Gunners must be at least 16 years of age on the day of their hunt. Gunners that are under 18 must fly with a member of our staff for safety reasons.

Is there a weight limit?
Yes, for each individual seat the limit is 300 pounds. Additionally, combined gunner weight must not exceed 475 pounds for the safety of the flight. This is your weight PLUS your gear and will be verified before the hunt begins.
