New Zealand Genuine Free Range Tahr, Chamois and Red Stag #374

ABout this Adventure

This family-run outfitting business is one of the very best you will find in the South Pacific. The hunts they offer are guaranteed to be 100% wild and free range with nothing artificial. There are no high fences here, no deer farm genetics, no stocking farm raised animals into private properties. Simply put, these are the most real and authentic hunts available in New Zealand for those seeking a premium mountain hunting adventure. The owner, is also one of the most reputable in the South Pacific, with access to the best wild lands and private properties available in the country.

Depending on the species and hunt dates, most clients with enjoy a choice of wilderness hunting with tented spike camps with optional helicopter transport or choose private land hunting with cabin accommodations and land rover access with most hunt options. Custom trips from five to 12 days can be tailored for any group, including small game hunting, birds and exceptional touring on the spectacular South Island. Hunt Nation’s Derek Amadio has hunted here, and this is an experience you can book with confidence.

The Hunt
All hunts take place on the South Island of New Zealand. Although the outfitter does hold government concessions in public wilderness areas, the majority of all hunting takes place on the best private lands available in the country. These properties are managed year-round and long-term, which is directly responsible for their incredible success rates of 95% across the board, including combination hunts.
Depending on the species, time of year and area hunted, cabins are primarily used for accommodations with all private land hunts. These private land hunts use land rover access with a true hunt-by-foot approach with spotting and stalking. Although physical, he has the ability to accommodate varying degrees of ability.
If a public land hunt is requested, a helicopter may be necessary to shuttle the hunters and gear to a drop off location, where tented spike camps would serve as accommodations. The helicopter shuttle fee is included in the cost with public land hunts.

Tahr
Originally introduced from the Himalayan Mountain range, tahr are thriving in New Zealand. Without exaggeration, this outfitter’s private land hunts may offer the best tahr hunting available anywhere in the world today, and without the use of a helicopter. The terrain is spectacular and hunters in reasonable physical condition can expect opportunity without strain or risking their lives in dangerous terrain. The populations are strong and the hair quality is best from April through August.

Chamois
The alpine subspecies of chamois introduced to New Zealand can be hunted all season, with an attractive summer coat during the late summer and early fall and thick, often dark hair from April onward through August. These small mountain animals have excellent eyesight and make a great trophy on their own or as a combination with any other animal.

Red Stag
New Zealand is famous for red stag hunting, but discerning sportsmen and women who value authenticity and the experience over antler size will appreciate the opportunities for the wild and free ranging deer that can be hunted from late February through August. The “roar” is one of the most exciting times to hunt red deer, peaking in late March each year. The majority of this outfitter’s red deer hunts take place on private property with land rover access, however horseback hunts may be available on a limited basis with special request. The outfitter is an expert equestrian, and this represents a very rare opportunity as very few horses are utilized in the South Pacific.

Red deer hunted by this outfitter are genuinely wild and free from any genetic manipulation. As a result, realistic trophy expectations will be mature stags with five, six, or seven points per antler, on average, with an approximate SCI score ranging from 240 to 300.” Only the very best stags will exceed 300” in the wild. Simply said, free range red stags will never approach the sizes often advertised from high fence estates, and any stags from New Zealand, specifically, that are significantly larger than +/- 320” are almost always going to fall into one of two categories; either they have escaped a high fenced estate or they have been purchased from an estate and transported into a low fence area prior to a hunter’s arrival.

Accommodations range from a well-appointed house that serves as the outfitter’s base, to comfortable cabins as well as tented spike camps for wilderness hunts. Please inquire with our office for any specifics or requests for your group.

Firearms may be imported into New Zealand with an easy to obtain permit; firearmssafetyauthority.govt.nz/manage-and-apply/permits/permits-import/apply-permit-import
For those who wish not to travel with a firearm, the outfitter can provide excellent rifles with quality optics paired with accurate, hand loaded ammunition.
