This outfitter is one we have worked with for over 10 years. He hunts some of Alaska’s most famous areas with some of the highest brown bear concentrations in the state including the famed Wood River-Tikchik Park, the Togiak Wildlife Refuge as well as Admiralty Island. Here, clients have a great choice of options for both spring and fall hunts, including lodge-based and tented camp options.
This is the ideal moose hunt for guys who do not want to kill themselves fighting Alaska’s muskeg flats. This very successful outfitter uses small jet boats to access many small and remote rivers, creeks and ponds. Because they are the only ones in the area with those type of rigs, clients typically do not have to walk very far to get their moose. Still, like all hunts, be in your best possible shape to insure that one opportunity does not slip away because you could not move quickly enough to intercept.
They do a lot of calling in of moose to the hunters, and a little spot and stalk over relatively short distances. That said, it is still not a hunt for someone who cannot climb easily in and out of boats; up steep banks and push through some willows and water. But it is markedly easier then most Alaskan moose hunts. Call it a 5 on a 10 scale of effort. You have good success on big moose in the 55 to 65 inch range, and with great comfort.
It is also the case that this is the place to do a moose/brown bear combination hunt! Virtually 100% on both species is the norm! You will see bears while moose hunting- often many of them! You will regret not having a bear tag in your pocket. Bears here average in the 8’ to 9’ range and you should have multiple chances.
These hunt Areas are NOT draw areas…due to abundance of game tags are available. Some tags are available “over the counter” and others are available through the Outfitter as the permit holder for the area. Outfitter will handle this for you.
Next consideration is lodging. Normally on moose hunts you are spiking out in tents, with cots and sleeping bags, eating freeze dried meals with some cooking too. You CAN do that here, and some clients prefer that. BUT- if you are a guy who relishes an upscale lodge, nice sheets, hot showers, chef prepared meals and the like- you CAN DO IT HERE!!
The main dining lodge has an atmosphere of relaxed, friendly comfort. It is yours to enjoy. Relax on the front deck overlooking the water and the superb rainbow and char fishing! Inside a variety of teas and coffee are always available to go with some of Alaska’s best homemade cookies. You can enjoy the cozy warmth of the woodstove while reading, visiting or kidding the chef! Catch giant rainbow trout and 3 to 6 pound Arctic char until you tire yourself out!
Your comfortable personal waterfront sleeping cabin is of spruce and cedar. Cabins have propane lights and heat. Cabins have two single beds with warm cover blankets, chairs, table, clothing shelves, art work, decorative candles and floor rugs. Individual bathrooms have flush toilets, sink and mirror. The shower house has an endless supply of on demand hot water for a great shower.

LODGE BASED – WITH A /TENT OPTION- BEAR AND/OR MOOSE HUNTS (Moose sold out through 2026)
Conducted in some of Alaska’s most beautiful country in Southwest Alaska’s Wood River-Tikchik River Park. You will base out of the main Lodge. You may choose to stay at the lodge or at the out camps. They use small mobile outboard river jet boats as your mode of transportation every day. They have been guiding/outfitting in this region since 1986. Within the Park they conduct brown bear hunts, moose hunts and moose bear combinations hunts. So 3 options to consider. A large portion of their Moose and fall Bear hunters initially base out of the lodge, coming and going from the Lodge out to small tented spike camps when necessary or desired in order to take advantage of the best locations for hunt success. If so arranged a hunter can base solely out of the Lodge for the entire hunt duration.
You will hunt moose in the same country where they spend all summer fishing clients in the local rivers and streams. Hunting is done by both “spot and stalk” and “calling” methods. Because they also have a great bear population in and around the streams, you hunt bear in conjunction with your moose hunting, spending some time concentrating on the salmon spawning areas of the region.
Specific areas they hunt and how they hunt depend on weather variables, rut activity, salmon spawning activity, client desires and client physical condition.
While hunting moose and/or bear you also have daily access to world class rainbow trout, arctic char and arctic grayling fishing. The fishing is world class!!
MOOSE/BEAR COMBO HUNTS FROM LODGE/TENTS (Moose sold out through 2026)

Using river jet-boats daily as the primary mode of transportation in the same areas where they fish during the summer months. They utilize two essential hunting methods when pursuing moose, “spot & stalk” and “calling.”
They generally are successful in hunting bears by Sept. 5th (beginning of moose season). If not, then upon the success of a moose harvest we concentrate our efforts on salmon spawning areas and berry areas of the region.
Brown Bears in this region average 8′ – 8’6”. These are beautiful, honest bears, with a wide array of color variations in this area. Apart from the traditional brown bear with gold highlights we see a lot of bears with silver and cream colored variations in this area.
Moose in this region are true trophies, with an average antler width of 61″ inches, with antler width ranging from 54″ inches – 72″ inches.
Over the years they have experienced success rates from a low of 60% to a high of 100% many seasons. Success for this hunt can be determined by a number of variables as any hunt. Weather, client physical and mental strengths, rut activity, salmon spawning activity and all will curtail into the success of a moose bear combination hunt.

Returning to a hot wood stove, hot shower and a wonderful lodge style meal after a day afield. Each day you utilize river jet-boats to access areas frequented by bears. The bears have a rich abundance of salmon and berries in this area. Providing great hunting and viewing opportunities.

SPRING BROWN BEAR HUNTS ON ADMIRALTY ISLAND:
Spring Brown Bear hunts are conducted within Admiralty Island and the Kootznoowoo Wilderness area of the Tongass National Forest. He has been fortunate to be permitted to operate in this extraordinary area since 1993. Admiralty Island is a place with a rich abundance of marine life, beautiful rugged mountains and one of the highest densities of Brown Bears in the world make it an exciting hunting location.
One of the things clients really enjoy about the spring hunts on Admiralty Island is the diversity of wildlife seen each day. We commonly see humpback whales, orca whales, porpoise, sea lions, sea otters, Sitka deer, mink and dozens of other wildlife and waterfowl species.
You hunt the coast of the island from their land based camp using Zodiac boats. Hunters of all physical abilities can enjoy this hunt.
Brown Bears in this area average 8′ – 9′ foot squared. The spring bears have luxurious hair and is truly magnificent. These bears usually are a dark brown color with gold tips. Success rates in the past has been very good. As with any hunt success changes annually due to varying factors such as weather and winds.
Their camp consists of a wall tent for cooking and eating and large dome tents with cots for sleeping. Camp is comfortable and located in an idyllic setting on a small spit of land between a salt water cove and a freshwater creek surrounded by huge old growth spruce, hemlock and fir trees. Meals are quite good, you can expect to gain weight.
FALL TOGIAK BROWN BEAR HUNTS:
This is a premier bear hunt conducted in one of Southwest Alaska’s most pristine and wild hunting regions. They have been guiding in the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge since 1987. This exclusive use Federal Refuge area and Native Private Lands Area is remote and beautiful with an excellent bear population.
The areas in which you hunt in this location are conducive to “spot and stalk” hunting. With open rolling tundra hills laced with blueberry, cranberry and crowberry brush and alder covered mountainsides. Low in the valleys the salmon spawn in small streams. These resources provide a rich abundance of food for the bears in this ideal habitat.
Hunting is done by glassing from vantage points. When a good bear is spotted the stalk begins. Bears are typically viewed each day. A hunter wishing to harvest a trophy needs to be in good physical condition in order to hike and capitalize on any opportunity a large bear presents. A hunter in reasonably good physical condition should have opportunities to see and stalk large make bears in the 8’6″ to 10′ squared size range.
Lightweight and minimalistic, these hunts are true down to basics hunts. The camps are comfortable but simple. They consist of a 10’x10′ Dome tents with cots, a 4’x7′ gear tent, a cook stove and lantern. Due to remoteness of these camps, aircraft logistics, and “no impact” camp restrictions — you go into these areas as light as possible. As with all of our hunting expeditions the hunt is conducted 1×1. A 100% mental and physical effort by the hunter is required on this hunt.
