Argentina Doves, Dorado, Ducks & Perdiz #37

Argentina Doves, Dorado, Ducks & Perdiz #37

This opportunity is a result of a newly discovered high volume dove roost near the city of Buenos Aires located in Entre Rios province. And there is also some great Dorado fishing, and even water buffalo and boar can be added to any package!

WHERE: Entre Rios province is now one of the most productive agriculture regions in Argentina. It has extensive scrublands and water and streams that provide ideal habitat to yield the highest dove density in the whole country! We think it exceeds Cordoba! And the shooting fields are only a two hour drive from downtown BA and under three hours from BA Airport. So no extra flying!

Client report: “ Hi Butch. The pickup group met me at the McDonalds in the airport in Buenos Aires. Everything went smoothly and a nice driver then drove me to the camp. Heavy morning traffic slowed the drive to about 4 hours to the camp. Driver very courteous and careful. Upon arrival I was shown to my room in the beautiful hacienda. It was impeccable and probably beyond 5 star! Better then anyone deserved and a woman would have loved it. Food was all 5 star quality, with great wines, cigars around the fire at night and excellent guide work. I would tag out on my 25 ducks right away in the morning, even though I was being picky on my species and shots. Afternoons were pigeons and Doves and I often stopped early once I had my fill of shooting. Evening meals were incredible. The entire staff went way beyond what anyone could have expected. Five stars across the board. Thanks for a great trip!” Tom M.

The hunting area is connected with Buenos Aires city by a brand new four lane highway. It means that it is not necessary to spend the time, and money, to fly inside Argentina in order to get to a place like Cordoba. Hunters can reduce their costs dramatically and save as well on travel time and they won’t get the usual domestic flight hassles: no delays, no extra weight costs, no expensive flight tickets, and simply a much easier and more enjoyable visit.

This hunting area also features very good duck and partridge hunting during the hunting season (May to August) and very good pigeon shooting as well during the months when the crops are mature (February to May). Dove is year round.

Location: This hunting area is located an average 2.5 hour drive from Buenos Aires city. The hunting area is 160 miles long by 50 miles wide – meaning virtually unlimited natural resources and huge numbers of birds. Their main lodge, (they have three more available) is in Northern end of the area and is the closest to BA. It is possible to shoot 4 different types of feathers here: ducks, perdiz, doves and pigeons,

Dove shooting: this operation has the closest high volume dove roosts from Buenos Aires city (some of them with more than 10 million birds). A second lodge has its own dove roost on the property. Typically 1000+ doves a day is normal but clients shooting over 5000 rounds a day have happened!!

Bird species available: This operation is one of the very few that offers the four feathers legally allowed to be hunted in Argentina in the same place at the same time: All of them with great populations of birds. Plus Golden dorado fishing is also available in the same place and some big game as well like water buffalo, wild boar and some other. Just inquire of us and we will construct a plan.

Regarding duck hunting, they hunt from dry blinds so hunters don’t have to wear waders or hip boots. They offer more than ten species of ducks including different species of teal, pintails, rosey billed pochards, wigeons, shovelers and whistling ducks. The daily limit is 25 ducks per hunter. Peak duck season is May 1 into mid-August. In the beginning of their mixed bag hunting season they have the following ducks: Speckled teal, Brazilian duck, Silver teal, yellow billed pintail, White cheek whistling ducks, collared teals and a few others. After mid-season and during late season we received the migration of rosy billed pochards, widgeons, shovelers, fulvous pintails, etc.Geese hunting is forbidden in all the Argentinian territory and Chile.

Regarding perdiz you will shoot them over dogs (English pointers and German Shorthairs) and the daily limit is 8 per hunter. They can also shoot pigeon over decoys. And doves – no limit. And we like that the
driving distance from the lodge to the hunting fields is from 5 to 40 minutes tops.

The Main Lodge has nine deluxe rooms with private baths and all the modern comforts (air conditioning, WiFi Intenet and so on).

FISHING:

Fishing styles are varied, spin, fly or cast from boats and sometimes shore. The Golden Dorado has a large head, with powerful jaws filled with sharp teeth. It reaches maturity around 37 cm (15 in) long, and is golden colored. The average size of the golden dorado is about 3–10 kg (6.6–22.0 lb). The largest recorded size is 100 cm (39 in) length and 31.4 kg (69 lb).

The golden dorado is highly sought-after by anglers, both for its delicious taste and fighting ability. The aggressive nature of the dorado, its high jumps, and great fighting strength and stamina have created a great excitement among anglers from all corners of the world. While most anglers fish conventional bait casting or spinning tackle, recently the dorado has become a real favorite among the fly-fishing fraternity. Its aggressive behavior, fast runs, impressive strength, and awesome fighting hs won it many friends. It will frequently go, with its golden body flashing in the sunlight.

Most effective flies : Clouser Deep Minnows, Andino Deceiver, Lefty’s Deceiver, Poppers and other minnow-imitating flies. Equipments used range from fly weights 6 to 10, depending on the size of the average fish. This fish usually takes flies both on surface and sub-surface. It is common to use Intermediate and Sinking-Tip fly lines in places with fast current, which are often the preferred sites for this species. The fly is typically worked with long, slow pulls. The Dorado is a lazy chaser. So, if the fly moves too fast the fish may decline your offering. Flies tied for dorado usually contain lots of flash. This fish likes shiny, colorful flies in clear water – or black ones when the water is muddy. CAST AND BLAST TRIPS:

“Wingshooting and fishing in Argentina was my top dream international expedition. This outfitter and his staff provided the experience that I had hoped for and much more. His entire staff, from wait staff and cooks, to hunt guides and pointing dogs were excellent. Every outing was enjoyable and successful, including dove, duck, pigeon and perdiz hunting and fabulous Golden Dorado fishing on the Uruguay River. The food and lodging were outstanding and travel arrangements went very smooth. I highly recommend them for your adventure.” Bence C. , Windsor, CO.
“Hunting and fishing with them was nothing less than fantastic.-Everything from a super friendly and professional staff to five star accommodation and not least to mention wing shooting and fishing out of this world helped to make the four days an absolute unforgettable experience!” Christoffer B, Trade Activation Manager, Denmark

DOVES: This winter if you expect to be cold, miserable, bored, housebound, and lusting for your favorite outdoor activities around January and February- here is your instant relief. (no- its not Alka Seltzer or scotch!) You can get some buddies together, and you all take a long weekend in beautiful warm and sunny Argentina, shoot 500 to 2000 doves a day, eat and drink well, and be back to work in 4 days.

Here is a sample itinerary:
• Fly to Buenos Aires on a Thursday night, arriving early AM on Friday morning. Outfitter meets you and drives you about 2 hours to the handsome Lodge.
• You will be shooting that Friday afternoon, but lunch first. A dinner feast that evening with wonderful Argentine wines.
• Saturday and Sunday, shoot; and shoot again Monday morning if desired.
• Catch the afternoon flight home, arriving Tuesday morning.

That would give you 6 shoots, (two full days and two half days). And enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and lots of joshing one another! And this trip will not bust your budget either! Also we can lengthen or shorten the trip. We can also add on a Water buffalo at $2950 and boar (big ones) at $850.

You should understand that the high volume dove shooting is available year round near Buenos Aires. During May through August there is also excellent duck hunting in the vast wetlands, streams and ponds of that wet area; and at that same time span there is excellent hunting for Perdiz (partridge) over dogs. So it is easy to combine doves, ducks and perdiz at the same place and at the same time (generally around May thru-August.) And Dorado fishing is included if desired. Pigeon shooting in the fields or cattle feed lots is also available at certain months of the year.

EXTRA COSTS: – ( All of these must be paid in Cash. They will collect it at end of hunt, so please bring sufficient cash. You must pay in US dollars. If you prefer you can make a deposit with us toward non-included expenses, so you do not have to carry the funds, but then you must include $40 for the wiring fee. Most clients just bring the cash.. Shells and tips must always be paid in the field after the hunt )

– Transport from Airport to Camp and back. Costs vary with party size, but on average for a party of 2, figure about $250/person.
– Shotgun shells @ $13/box;
– Hunting, license $150,
– Tips at about $50 per day for bird boys and $30 per day for house staff.
– Gun rentals are $75/day and highly recommended

GENERAL TRIP DETAILS: Description of a standard combo hunt for duck, perdiz, doves & pigeon.

Day 1) Your services begin when they meet you at Buenos Aires Int´l airport at early morning. If you are bringing your own weapons they will help with the gun clearance by preparing the gun introduction forms in advance. Then you all take a van and drive a couple of hours to the lodge directly from the airport.

Once you arrive they offer a welcome drink. Their chef will prepare lunch with both Argentinean and International gourmet cuisine, served at the main dining room. You can expect appetizers and any alcoholic drinks before each meal like Gin & tonic, Whiskey, Argentinean quality beer (Quilmes is a favorite), along with a wide selection from their winery. Argentinean wine such as Trapiche, Chandon, Luigi Bosca among many others. Once at the table they usually offer a starter like traditional empanadas, salads, brochettes, different kind of pies, vithel tonne or soups if the cold weather demands them. Main courses could be famous Argentinean beef in different ways: steaks, asado or elaborate dishes with beef are served along with side plates with baked potatoes, rice, steamed vegetables, salads, smashed potatoes and pumpkin. Pasta, chicken and fish are also served. One of the highlights is the Argentinean barbecue in the field which includes different cuts of beef, sausages, chicken and so on. Game meat is often prepared by the staff, to include wild boar, axis deer, doves and ducks breasts, perdiz and much more. They will also prepare special meals at your request. Ice cream, homemade flan, cakes, pies and natural fruit are some of our desserts as well as coffee or tea of different flavors.

You will go hunting on the first afternoon – either after a nap or immediately — your decision. Professional hunters will advise what program would be suitable for the party (pigeon or perdiz) We expect to shoot around of a couple of boxes (10/15 partridges) on the afternoon or 6 boxes if we go for pigeons. After hunting, snacks and drinks will be offered either on the deck or the living room.

Day 2 and beyond) Hunt can be, at the right times of the year, an early morning duck hunt. Hunters typically shoot around of 8 boxes in a normal day. A light breakfast or a complete one — is served at request of the hunters. If you prefer to start the hunting day with a light breakfast, then they serve a brunch when you come back to the lodge. The hunt is very close to the lodge. It usually includes natural fresh fruit juices, coffee, tea, bacon and eggs, cereals, yogurt, cake, toast with butter and marmalade. Then continue the morning with another shooting activity or hunters will have a break until lunch. You will go hunting again on the afternoon (perdiz, doves or pigeon). Fishing is an option too. This is a typical scenario of what to expect daily.

OUTFITTERS NOTES: “Basically after landing in Buenos Aires, we meet you and we drive 3-4 hours to Entre Rios province and we will hunt and fish over the Uruguay river side (East side of the province). That river is the natural border between Argentina and Uruguay. We manage more than 2,000,000 acres for wingshooting including huge wetlands for duck hunting, and the higher land which is more suitable for agriculture and cattle breeding is where we hunt perdiz and also brushy areas where we also manage some different dove roosts with a volume of birds similar or better than Cordoba.

Cost of the transport will vary with fuel costs, but an average of $250/person is close. That is an extra.”

This is the only place in South America where you can shoot all the bird species legally allowed to be hunted in the same area. Ducks, pigeons, perdiz over dogs and doves. And golden dorado fishing is also available in the same area.

“The beauty of this operation is that once the hunters are there– they can choose what to do: hunting or fishing. Everything is very SUCCESSFUL, so for us its the same to shoot one thing or the other or to fish. We usually hunt ducks in the morning and doves or perdiz in the afternoon. Pigeon shooting is also very good when the grain of the crops is mature in late March to beginning of May. This is why we offer it as a bonus where we find it in good numbers. However, we can also shoot pigeons in the morning in some cattle feed lots afterwards.”

“Regarding golden dorado fishing we include boat rental, fuel, bait, lures, fishing equipment and so on at the same price of a dove shooting day so hunters can either go dove shooting or golden dorado fishing as they wish. This double aim trip is great because if the river is not in a very good condition (too high for example) and fishing is not good we always have the chance to shoot doves instead.”

FINAL BALANCES: Balances (the second 50%) must be paid 30 days before the trip to Butch’s Hunt-Nation. NO EXCEPTIONS! You must include an extra $40 for the wire transfer to get your funds to Argentina.
