Manitoba Moose, Bear, Deer & Fishing #306

Manitoba Moose, Bear, Deer & Fishing #306

MOOSE HUNTS:
This outfitter takes a relatively small number of moose hunters and schedules all hunts to bracket the normal rut times. Your choice of weapon, but bowhunters should practice out to 50 yards. In 2022, they had 15 hunters and harvested 8 moose. Another hunter missed a bull, and a party of 3 hunters had to cut their trip short and go home early. In 2023, they had a total of 18 hunters amongst all the camps. A total of 6 moose were harvested, 3 hunters passed on moose (one client saw 6 moose!), and 3 other hunters had opportunities. So 12/18 had opportunity on moose, and they also got 2 bears.
Their moose hunts start from the float plane base in Thompson, Manitoba and you are then flown to one of the many lakes in their outfitting territory. They presently have a total of 4 camp, 3 being tent camps and one having a cabin. They are looking to additional camps for 2024 in order to rotate from year to year.

WE LIKE THESE SPECIAL FEATURES:
• That they will only put one party on a lake at a time, so no competition from other people in camp!
• That your moose license (including fishing) is included in the hunt price- no extra charge.
• That all taxes are also included in the price.
• That taking a bear or a wolf is at no charge, except for the license.
• That the bush plane trips are included- even a second plane to carry out your meat!!
• That there are no trophy fees.

You will be hunting spot and stalk with lots of calling, and hoping a big old bull comes swaggering in, grunting all the way. Just be sure and wait for the right angle for your shot! You will have 6 full days of hunting to “get er done”. You have a choice of booking either 2 hunter/one guide hunt, or a 1 on 1 hunt. There are no trophy fees, and a big plus is the bush plane flight is included in the price!! A 50 pound weight limit applies. NO hard suitcases! Too hard to get in small planes. Most of the lakes have fish in them, so it’s nice to squeeze in a pack rod and some spinners and spoons for the pike, walleye, lakers and grayling.  Please note that final payment is due 90 days pre-hunt, and upon receipt, all necessary info will be sent to you by the outfitter. Most bulls taken run 45”-55”.

BEAR HUNTS:
BowHunter Magazine has ranked Manitoba as the number one place in North America for a black bear hunt, particularly in the agricultural areas, which is exactly where this operation is. The record books are full of Manitoba black bears. And some huge weights too, not just big skulls. Areas adjacent to Riding Mountain National Park (where this operation is based), have long been known for producing big black bears. Hunters around the park have historically harvested huge bears that frequent the vast tracts of mixed forest and agriculture lands. There are mind boggling growth rates here. Hunting here puts you in big bear territory. You mainly are hunting on private farmlands adjacent to the National Park, ensuring a steady supply of big bears. Stands are set up from 15 to 25 yard shots normally.

This area is also known for a high percentage of color phase bears, cinnamon, blonde, brown and others. So big bears, color phase bears, and also high success mark this a must do destination. He has a history of 100% opportunity and a 95% success rate over many years. Typically, you have breakfast, go out with your guide to check trail cameras and refresh baits, then a big lunch in mid-afternoon and off to your stand. YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN SAFETY HARNESS FOR THE TREESTAND!!!

You can fly to Winnipeg and rent a car and drive 3 hours to the meeting place.

NOTE: The cost of your hunting license is included in the bear price!
NOTE: If you draw blood your hunt is finished. Maximum recovery efforts will be made.

FISHING:
They are committed to providing you with the best possible fishing trip, whether you are looking for a trophy catch, memories with your friends or a fun trip for the entire family. Their camp offers a unique fishing experience. Lake Trout, Walleye and Northern Pike are the three main species of fish in the area and the fishing is excellent. The lake also holds populations of White Fish and Perch, adding a nice variety for your fishing adventure. Lodging is a cabin with bunk beds and can support 10 people. Indoor toilets and showers (brin your sleeping bag). You are never far from a fishing hot spot at this Lodge and their professional guides will teach you how to catch the fish of a lifetime. You can even catch them right from their dock.

The tackle-busting northern pike sits atop the freshwater food chain and is right at home here in Manitoba. The lake provides the shallow spawning bays, baitfish-covered reefs and humps, and the deep, cool waters that grow the biggest pike and some good lake trout. The pike population is healthy and trophy fish over 20 pounds and 42 inches abound in the lake. Fish with any tackle you desire, from fly to spin to bait casting.

WHITETAIL DEER HUNTS:
Manitoba, Canada has become well known as a sleeper state for huge whitetail deer. They hunt one of the best areas in the Province for trophy whitetail deer hunting. Located east of Riding Mountain National Park in the Parkland Region, this area has vast amounts of agricultural farm fields that back up to forest; creating the perfect type of edge habitat to grow monster whitetails. The fertile farm fields provide the deer with the feed and minerals they need to grow those heavy dark antlers. The forest gives them the cover to be able to hide out from predators and grow to their full potential. Combine this with excellent genetics and you have the perfect combination for growing huge whitetails. Deer sizes vary with the hunters ability to hold off shooting, but expect 130 to 160 class, and possibly much larger.

In general the best deer hunting method to kill a big whitetail is to spend as much time as possible on stand. During the Rut mature bucks will be on the move all day long looking for receptive does. The more time a hunter can spend on stand the better the chance he or she will have to harvest a good buck. Our hunters typically spend at least 6 hours a day and preferably all day in their stands. Whitetail hunting is done out of elevated box blinds (heaters provided when needed). The stands are set on the edges of the fields where the does congregate or back in the bush on known crossings and travel routes between feeding and bedding areas. These locations are well scouted and stands are setup well in advance of your arrival.

Hunters fly into Winnipeg and rent a car. They then drive approximately 3 hours to Ste. Rose where you will be met by the outfitter and he will help you get settled into your accommodations. (WiFi & Cell Service Available) Typically Hunters will arrive on Sunday and after getting settled in they will take a couple of shots with their chosen weapon to ensure everything is sighted in properly. Be sure to bring your own safety harness and orange hat and vest.
