We have only one complaint about this operation. You need to book it 12 to 18 months in advance due to the extremely high rate of return clients and the word of mouth referrals. The outfitter does very little advertising because they do not need to. In fact, the outfitter is booked for 2015 for caribou, so start looking at 2016 if you’re interested. The outfitter’s moose area is the most densely populated unit in the province according to the Department of Wildlife. The department estimates an incredible 20 moose per square mile! It’s not surprising that hunter’s success rates are well over 90% for many years.
So you have two great game areas and you can easily combo your hunt to make the most of your adventure. They also have some very large black bears in these same areas, with about a 70% average success on bear hunts. And the pricing for their hunts includes the cost of your licenses! Keep that in mind when comparing prices.
The outfitter has several first-class lodges, but limits the number of hunters to 8 per week, for maximum comfort and success. Food is plentiful and delicious. The guides and staff are friendly, likeable folks. The guides are seasoned, accomplished and knowledgeable and have received extensive training. You will fly (or drive) from New York, Boston, Toronto or Montreal to Deer Lake or St. Anthony, where they pick you up (also at no cost). For equipment, you’ll want to bring calf-length rubber boots and the best rain gear you can afford. You’ll have an advantage if you are able to walk and cover ground. Even if you cannot, almost anyone can succeed here.
The second thing that makes them special is that they are now able to hunt caribou in an area that had been closed to hunting for many, many years, but just recently re-opened. Two HUNT NATION clients took B&C caribou there recently and saw hundreds of others. It’s no surprise that their harvest rate on these woodland caribou is again over 90%.
The season for gun hunters is basically mid-September to end of October. Bow hunters get a jump on the gun hunters by starting on September 1. This is a popular hunt, so remember to book early! The staff will cape your animal and box the meat for transport.
If you want to do a spring bear hunt over bait, baits will be set out and maintained well in advance and maybe you can tag one of those 400-pounders!

GETTING YOUR WEAPON INTO CANADA
You are allowed to bring your personal firearm with you. This includes your rifles, shotguns or muzzleloaders (NO HANDGUNS, SUPPRESSORS OR AR-25!). For your firearms, a simple one-page form is required to be filled out to obtain a temporary Canadian firearms permit. This form can be down-loaded or mailed to you well in advance from The Royal Canadian Mounted Police at https://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/wam/media/2347/original/d369a605ac3363b569af5ea5dc40c88d.pdf. Complete the NON-RESIDENT FIREARM DECLARATION FORM RCMP 5589 (and continuation Form 5590 if extra pages are needed). Completing this in advance should reduce your time clearing customs. DO NOT SIGN IT UNTIL YOU APPEAR IN FRONT OF CUSTOMS, but fill it out. A confirmed declaration costs a flat fee of $25, regardless of the number of firearms listed on it. It is only valid for the person who signs it and for those firearms listed on the declaration. It is a simple form to fill out. IF YOU HAVE A DUI OR A CRIMINAL RECORD, CALL US! YOU MAY BE DENIED ADMITTANCE. NO FORMS ARE REQUIRED TO BRING YOUR HUNTING BOW INTO CANADA!
