Zimbabwe Premier Safari #206

Zimbabwe Premier Safari #206

This outfit and its PH owner has long been considered to be one of the very best in Zimbabwe. His prices while not cheap, are reasonable, AND he is a no nonsense professional with tons of field experience. PLUS his safari concession, the OMAY, is one of the finest in existence in Zimbabwe!

The Omay concession is situated on Lake Kariba, with a lengthy border on the lake and IT ALSO has a long eastern border on one of the National Parks, with both features contributing greatly to the high game quantities existent in this concession.

Zimbabwe-206-Elephant-Pic-1   As you can see from the map above, the concession is a huge one with all the features you might desire in a concession, including plenty of water and plenty of ground. You reach the concession either by vehicle (less expensive but much longer); or else by a charter flight of 90 minutes, which then lands adjacent to the shore of the lake. You are smack in the middle of nearly ONE MILLION ACRES to hunt! This concession holds most of the big Five, including elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and of course hippo. There are large quantities of game here and the country is extremely varied, ranging from the Zambezi River Valley, to high hills, rolling plains and deep timber. Everything game can want is here! This is absolutely one of the premier and finest concessions in Zimbabwe.

Their two main camps are both located on the beautiful lakeshore complete with stunning views and easy access to fishing. Both camps are generator-powered permanent structures with ensuite facilities so your comfort is ensured.

Here you will find Elephant, Lion, Leopard and Buffalo,  and all are normally  plentiful in their big-game hunting areas. Hippo, Sable, Crocodile, Kudu, Zebra, Waterbuck, Bushbuck, Warthog and numerous other smaller species are also found here. For other species, they have access to smaller concessions where Leopard, Eland, Zebra, Kudu, Impala, Tsessebe, Wildebeest, Sable, Warthog, Duiker, Steenbok and other animals can be hunted to round out your wish list!!

By way of explaining just how much game there is – let’s look at his yearly quota, which is huge:

–          17 elephant bulls

–          12 tuskless

–          85 buffalo bulls

–          20 buffalo cows

–          6 lion

–          11 leopard

–          6 crocodile

–          12 hippo

–          18 sable ( 8 in his plains game area )

Plains game (extensive quota)

A few years ago they took in a single safari season, 5 elephant over 60 pounds, 13 leopard for 13 hunters, one elephant over 100 pounds, 2 lion, 60 buffalo bulls, 20 hippo, 20 crocs and much more. This gives you an idea of the area and it’s potential, and the skill of the outfitter and his PH’s.
