Step Into the Jungle and Chase the Crown Jewel of Turkey Hunting
Are you ready for a true hunting adventure—or looking to complete the prestigious World Turkey Slam? Imagine trading hardwood ridges for steamy jungle trails as you pursue one of the most exotic birds on the planet: the ocellated turkey. We’ve partnered with one of the most respected and professional outfitters in southern Mexico to deliver a turkey hunt unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.
Ocellated turkeys are the smallest of all wild turkeys, with mature toms weighing just 10–14 pounds—but don’t let their size fool you. These birds are breathtaking. Their feathers shimmer with iridescent hues of aqua, purple, orange, and gold, making them one of the most visually striking trophies in the turkey world. While they don’t grow beards, ocellated turkeys boast the largest spurs of any turkey species, which guides use to determine age and trophy quality. It’s no surprise this hunt is often considered the crown jewel of the coveted “Big Six Slam.”
A Jungle Hunt Like No Other
Hunting in the jungle is a sensory experience unlike any other. On this exclusive 3,500-acre private ranch, visibility is often limited, making sound just as important as sight. High heat and humidity push birds toward water sources, where hunters wait in elevated blinds—known locally as machans. Instead of gobbling, ocellated turkeys communicate with a deep, drumming sound similar to North American grouse.
Your experienced guide will use specialized calls to draw birds into shooting lanes, creating heart-pounding moments you won’t soon forget.
In recent seasons, this outfitter has delivered a remarkable 100% shot opportunity rate. To maintain a high-quality experience, only four hunters are allowed on the ranch at any one time.
First-Class Trophy Care
Trophy preparation is exceptional and frequently praised by past clients. The lodge owner’s brother, a local biologist, personally inspects each bird and handles all export documentation, including CITES permits. Your bird will be expertly caped, salted, frozen, and securely packaged with all permits clearly visible—making USDA inspection upon reentry into the U.S. smooth and straightforward.
If your hunt is booked within 60 days and export paperwork isn’t ready in time, the outfitter can arrange shipment through a licensed broker directly to you or your taxidermist for an additional $500.
Client Tip: If you book several months in advance, routing your return through Houston, TX and pre-scheduling your USDA trophy inspection makes the process fast and efficient. Bringing a small backpack cooler as a carry-on allows you to keep your trophy frozen and easily transport it home.
Accessible, Affordable, and Unforgettable
This hunt offers tremendous value—close to the U.S., affordable, and packed with adventure. Whether you’re a seasoned turkey hunter chasing a slam or simply seeking a one-of-a-kind hunting experience, this trip delivers.
Hunters fly into Mérida International Airport, then enjoy a pre-arranged 1.25-hour transfer to the lodge. Accommodations are simple but comfortable, with air-conditioned bedrooms to help you recharge after long, humid days in the jungle.
If you’re ready to hunt where few ever have—and pursue one of the most exotic turkeys on Earth—this is the adventure you’ve been waiting for.
Client Comments: Ed, I have nothing but good to say about the outfitter Rodolfo and his family. The communication was good and they responded promptly each time I had questions. They were waiting on us at the airport when we arrived and traveled to the house we were staying in just outside of town. Our meals were home cooked and very tasty. The hunt was super short and sweet with my hunting buddy and I tagging 2 trophy birds each in the first 3 hours of the hunt. We had 3 full days left so they took us to the Mayan ruins and also took us fishing out of Progresso (we paid extra for that). Trophy prep and export was perfect with no problems whatsoever. I have recommended them to several hunting friends of mine and they were pleased as well. Dink W.
